The position is established on a Forest unit to serve as an Air Tactical Group Supervisor (ATGS) for an Air Attack platform covering most interagency lands in and adjacent to the National Forest, and to assist the Unit Aviation Officer (UAO)/Forest Aviation Officer (FAO) in providing guidance and direction for all Forest aviation operations. US Citizenship is required. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Minimum of 90 days of wildland firefighting experience is required. Directs air tactical operations, provides aerial supervision and establishes priorities for initial attack, extended attack and other aviation duties as required.
Receives mobilization information; evaluates aircraft needs to perform air tactical mission; briefs ATGS pilots on mission requirements and crew resource management; determines navigation requirements; requests location of known hazards; gathers air space information; identifies available aircraft, estimated time of arrivals; identifies tanker base information; establishes air traffic control; identifies retardant and foam use restrictions; establishes target identification, appropriate tactics and coordinates with appropriate personnel; orders additional air resources as needed; briefs pilots; ensures positive control of aircraft in incident airspace; notify ground crews of incoming aircraft and tactics; coordinates with other incidents; provides intelligence to appropriate personnel; and monitors incident aircraft and pilot flight hour limitations.
Applies technical methods and procedures related to aviation operations and to managing agency programs. Performs a wide variety of limited aviation operations projects incorporating diverse technical knowledge. Ensures that risk management processes are applied to aerial supervision and tactics, and reevaluated continually during the operational period.
As required, schedules and assists in the inspection of aviation activities. May assist and support in search and rescue operations and serve as a technical specialist on accident investigation teams. Selects locations for temporary and semi-permanent airfields, helispots, and heliports as needed for air tactical operations.
Helps identify Forest ATGS trainees training needs and mentors trainees. Provides instruction on a variety of topics in fire, aviation safety and certifies aviation proficiency of Forest personnel.
May serve as Contracting Officer''s Representative/Inspector on air contracts. Conducts or participates in pre-work conferences with contractors.

This position has been identified as High or Moderate or Low Complexity under the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) or Forest Service Fire Program Management (FS-FPM) and is subject to selective placement factor requirements contained in the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard and Guide when filling this vacancy. IFPM or FS-FPM selective placement factors are made up of a primary and secondary National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) core Incident Management Qualifications and Required Training. You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-8 grade level; or two years of graduate level education or a master''s degree in a position-related field of forestry or natural resources management; or combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Examples of specialized experience are: Directing and coordinating aviation resources in support of fire suppression, prescribed fire and resource management as a Division/Group Supervisor (DIVS) or Incident Commander Type 3 (ICT3). Assisting in the planning, development and performance of aircraft used to perform high risk support activities. Ensuring that safety procedures were followed when operating aircraft. Performing contract management, aviation training, and safety program support activities for an aviation program.
Selective Placements:
A minimum 90 days experience performing on-the-line (Primary/Rigorous) wildland fire suppression duties as a member of an organized fire suppression crew or comparable unit that utilized knowledge of wildland fire suppression, containment or control techniques and practices under various conditions. This experience must be documented with specific dates in the online application or resume.
Successfully completed the Primary NWCG Core Requirement of Division Group Supervisor (DIVS), and/or the Secondary NWCG Core Requirement of Incident Commander Type 3 (ICT3).

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION AND FINGERPRINT CHECK: Selection and retention in this position is contingent on a successfully adjudicated FBI National Criminal History Check (fingerprint check) and a background investigation.
Initial appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of training.
FIREFIGHTER RETIREMENT COVERAGE: This is a secondary firefighter position under 5 USC 8336(c) (CSRS) and 8412(d) (FERS). At least 90 days of wildland firefighting experience is required. There is no age limit for entry into secondary positions. Firefighter retirement coverage of the incumbent depends upon his or her individual work history.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
